More BES Express and SBS 2008 Trials and Tribulations

As a continuation from my previous post where I couldn’t get logged into BAS after installing. I fixed that, now I can’t get any BBs to activate.

OTA crashes with a generic error saying to contact the SysAdmin. Hrmm… I wish there were times where someone else was the SysAdmin. Anyways…

MAGT log in the Logs folder shows this error:

BlackBerry Messaging Agent Server Agent 1 failed to start. Error code 5305

Unable to login to Blackberry Administration Service

I performed a clean install of BES Express 5.0.1 SP1on SBS2008 and I was unable to log in to the Blackberry Administration Service using AD credentials.

I followed these helpful posts on port3101.org to no avail:

BIS and Exchange 2007

Title says it all. I recently installed a BES (ahem Blackberry Professional Server) on an SBS box that was already running GFI MailEssentials. I was unable to get any Blackberrys to successfully complete OTA. They just sat at the activation screen, and then after an eternity would give a time out error.

PIX and DNS Doctoring

So, I’m ashamed to admit this, but in the interest of the greater good… I’ve probably set up over 100 of the PIX 501 and PIX 506 series firewalls. Most of our customers are smaller, and don’t demand a firewall of any bigger size. The PIX series has always fit the bill quite well, especially the features made available at the PIX price point.

Black Tuesday broke my IAS!

Okay, well not my IAS, but a customer’s IAS. Internet Authentication Service is Microsoft’s RADIUS implementation (among other things). We integrate IAS with our PIXs to control VPN access. We got a call from our customer who was unable to login via VPN - the RADIUS auth was failing. We determined this was because the IAS service wouldn’t stay started. Read more »

Windows XP RDP Printer Redirection

Looks like its the day for little Windows nuances. However, today they have logical fixes! So, the situation…

We have some clients who need to access their work network remotely. One inexpensive and easy to implement solution for a low density of users is just to allow the users to RDP their XP workstations on their desks at work. This gives them access to everything they are used to having at the office… almost. Read more »

Disconnected Windows Mapped Drives

Sound familiar? Have you ever opened My Computer and saw the drives mapped back to your Windows server have a red “X” on them with a description of “disconnected”? Then, through sheer magic, double-clicking on the drive letter you’re able to access its contents?
